Pleasant Larriwood Ripley was born 10 December 1850 in Union Parish, Louisiana to James and Lavina Busby Ripley. He came to Texas when he was just a tyke, his dad dying shortly after their arrival in Bexar County. His mother remarried to a R. B. Watkins, so he had half siblings. When he got old enough to help with supporting the family he drove cattle, making several trips on the old Chisholm Trail and became an active member in the Old Trail Driver's Association. The family moved to Wilson County, Texas where he marriage to Fannie May Nelson was recorded. They married the 13th of October 1872. They had 7 children together, 4 died early, the other three went on to become fine adults contributing much to society. Their oldest, Viva married John Steinfeldt and started the San Antonio School of Music. By the time their youngest, Roy was born they were settled in San Antonio, Texas and he had started my law practice. In 1928 he became ill and never recovered. At that time he retired from everything, his work and all Associations. He died on 11 May 1930 and was interred in the Nelson-Ripley cemetery plot of the Confederate Cemetery in San Antonio. |
