Home Steinfeldt Ancestors

Henry was born Henrich Joachin Christoph Steinfeldt 10 April 1827 in Rostock, Germany to Johann Christoph Adolph Steinfeldt and Maria Elizabeth Caronia Dunker.  Those were the names recorded in the records. He went by Henry. He was a handful to my parents because he had a fascination with everything. Music, math, astronomy were his favorites.  He grew up in a troubled area of the world.  Europe was in constant strife, but he managed to get an education.

He married twice.  The first to Marie Carolina Zimmerman.  They had several children together including his son John, who became a famous musician.  Marie died shortly after the birth of their daughter Fanny in 1866. Her death occurred in Ankum, Germany.  The Cahtolic Church there has records of some of these events.

Henry married second Elizabeth Sophie Wolkman in 1867. They has several children in Germany and then came to America.  Henry came first in February of 1874 arriving on Valentines Day on the City of Antwerp.  He  found work and a place for the to live in Cincinnati, Ohio and sent for the rest of the family.  They arrived in September of that same year. Sophie and Henry had two more children once they settled into their lives in America.  Sophie died in 1898 and he moved to Texas to be with his two musician sons.

John married and had two children before Henry died. He was in San Antonio.  Ben, well, Ben was in Houston and that is where Henry for the most part, lived until he died. He  travel with his son Ben a lot to see John and his family and spend time with them. He loved his life and family.  He died on Christmas evening 1910 after having a glorious day with Ben. Ben notified John via telegram and he came immediately. John let Vivia and the children know more details once he arrived. They had his body placed in Holy Cross Cemetery there in Houston.
