Cecile was the daughter of two brilliant people. John Martin Steinfeldt was her father. He was a musician. He traveled the world and wrote many pieces of music. Her mother, Vivia Ripley, was from a family of educators. She and John started the San Antonio School of Music. Cecile taught there off and on during the course of her life. She was born to the them 5 July 1894 in San Antonio and was their first child. As a child and young girl she had many privileges that most did not have. They lived in a big house that afforded her many places to hide and have solitude. In her early pictures it was apparent she really didn't like to have her picture taken, but it got done anyway. Cecile about 4 Cecile Cecile She traveled to Europe with her father in 1913 starting in London. While in Europe Cecile obtained a necklace that she wore during the season after she was introduced to Society at a huge ball her parents threw for her. The necklace was a topic of several newspaper articles of the day. Cecile married Theodore Satterfield 4 November 1914 in San Antonio shortly after her introduction to society. He was from the Plantation gentry of Louisiana. With Theo Cecile had
3 children,
Ted, Marian, and Robert. She traveled with
her son Robert to Mexico where Theo
worked for a while. She obtained a passport (1,2) to travel there.
Theo got very sick in 1921-1922 and died in November of the later year in the
Touro Infirmary of New
Orleans. She was in New Orleans working on her degree. Cecile graduated in
May 1923 and received congratulatory telegrams and notes from my family for the
accomplishment amide the tragedy of her loss.
Cecile graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word later.
She married a second time in 1936 to John "Jack" Ira Marshall. They made their homes in Virginia and in San Antonio. Jack died in 1949. Cecile died in 1979 and was buried in the cemetery at St. Mary's Church of San Antonio. Tombstone
