John Calhoun Stapleton
Home Stapleton Ancestors

John Calhoun Stapleton  was born in Lee County, Virginia on the 27th day of November in 1861. The country was heading for a rocky period and Virginia was in the middle of all of it. He only remember the loud noises and the carryings on by his mom. He grew up ok and got married to  Almeda Marcum.  Their  marriage Certificate has been passed down through the family within their family Bible (1,2). Their marriage was also recorded in the Lee County Virginia Marriage Records, that also included their parents names.

The family  left Lee County, Virginia where the family had lived for generations after their 10 children were born and  moved to Hunt County,  Texas.  His mom had died and his dad had moved with some of hs brothers to Tennessee.  His youngest brother had gone to Texas along with some of my cousins and had written about the opportunities that awaited those that came.  There was nothing in Virginia to hold us there. Almeda's parents were gone too.

There are pictures of daughters Cora, Florence, their youngest son was Randolph, and two youngest daughters Myrtle and Pearl.

They had a family picture taken that included all of their grown children. Almeda and John are sitting in the front.

Almeda died in 1947 and he died in 1956.  Their bodies were laid to rest the final time in the Forest Park Cemetery in Greenville, Hunt County, Texas.
