They made our home in Greenville. He had a grocery store in Greenville, but he took time off for fishin'. His in-laws loved to fish too. In 1918 he dutifully registered for the draft for the War in Europe. It was toward the end of the war. By then, Thela and James had two girls, They had another girl for a total of three girls, and then a son. Jimmy was a football star in high school. They were proud of all their children. They were all charmers and the house was filled with laughter. He made a trip back to Virginia before he died. He wanted his children to see where he had grown up. It was a nostalgic trip for him. They family had lived on land near the Powell River so that is where he had the children take him. He died in Greenville, where he and Thela had made their home and raised our family in 1975. The children had him buried next the Thela in Forest Park Cemetery. |
