Almeda Marcum

I was born 18 May 1863 in Lee County, Virginia to James Marcum and Sallie Sword. It was during the United States Civil War. I don't know how my mom kept it together during that time period.

I married John Stapleton in 1883. Our marriage Certificate has been passed down through the family within our family Bible (1,2). Our marriage was also recorded in the Lee County Virginia Marriage Records, that also included our parents names.

We left Lee County, Virginia where our families lived for generations and moved to Hunt County, Texas. There are pictures of daughters Cora, Florence, our youngest son was Randolph, and two youngest daughters Myrtle and Pearl.

We had a family picture taken that included all of our grown children. John and I are sitting in the front.

I died 09 March 1947 in Greenville, Texas. My body laid to rest the final time in the Forest Park Cemetery there in Greenville.
