James Satterfield was born Bet. 1765 - 1774 in Chowan County, North Carolina to Thomas and Elizabeth Satterfield. He married Frances Bonner 05 March 1795 in Chowan County, North Carolina. They had six children Henry B, Alfred, Thomas, James Lawrence, Elizabeth and Fanny. James died before 10 April 1824 when Frances went to court to deed some of the slaves to their children. She was going to remarry and wanted to protect their inheritance. James signed a petition in June 1797 in efforts to have a road laid in the county along with some of his siblings. He was active in Chowan County where he bought and sold many pieces of land before his death.
