Isaiah Norwood Satterfield

Isaiah Norwood Satterfield born 08 September 1862 in Point Coupee Parish, Louisiana to James Lawrence and Catherine Satterfield. He was born on a plantation located on the Atchafalaya River in Pointe Coupee Parish and named after one of his mom's favorite cousins. Norwood's mom died before he was 9, but his dad, being a doctor, made sure Norwood had a good education and start in life. His dad, as his natural guardian signed papers to help him purchase a piece of property in February of 1883. (1,2) His dad died the following year in 1884 leaving Norwood to grow up fast. He was already a young, educated young man with a great many prospects, but there was no immediate family left for him.

He married Eva Loudevine Erwin 26 February 1889 in New Iberia, Iberia Parish, Louisiana. They had three sons, the first, Norwood Edward died when he was barely two. Their second, Theodore died of TB in 1922. The third, James Lawrence was named after Norwood's dad. James moved to California, so Eva and Norwood did, too, after he retired. They had moved around a bit as Norwood managed a variety of interests. The family was in Cameron County, Texas, Pointe Coupee and Iberia Parishes, Louisiana, before moving to Monrovia California. They were happy and had their grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren visit them.

He died 29 March 1935 in Monrovia, Los Angeles County, California and was buried in the Monrovia Mausoleum in Monrovia, California.
