Joseph R. Ford
Home Ford Ancestors

Joseph R Ford was born on the 17th day of January in the year 1837.  Some say he was born in Georgia, others in South Carolina. He served in the Civil War in Terry's Rangers where he received a wound in his left wrist and was thought to have been dead, then captured.  He escaped from prison and returned to his unit after being hospitalized for the wound.  He found my way home after the war.  His mama and younger siblings were in Bastrop County, Texas.  Near there is Gonzales County, Texas where Laura, the widow of his older brother lived.  Joseph married her in 1867.  The date is recorded in her Mitchell parents family bible. The couple had two sons, Joseph Perry and Otho T.  Some say that they were born in Gonzales County, Texas, but we lived in Milam County at the time of their births. We were there by 1868 when Laura and he made a power of attorney to W. B. Sayers to sell land for them in Gonzales County, Texas. The land was sold the end of 1870 by W. B. Joseph died in Milam County, Texas in the fall of 1872 and was buried in the Little River Baptist Cemetery.
