Home Ford Ancestors

I was born in South Carolina on the 3rd day of November in the year 1833. My parents made sure all of their children could read and write.  I became a printer and in 1860 was in Roma, Starr County, Texas.  While there, I wrote a letter to the then Texas Governor Edward Clark requesting a commission for a company of soldiers that had formed there to protect the Rio Grande frontier for the Southern Confederacy. That was in the august of 1861.  by 1862 I was in Gonzales County, Texas where I met and married on the 12th day of  August, Laura Mitchell.  After we married, I bought land from her father Eli. (1,2) Laura and I had two children together.  One, George, died shortly after I did in 1865. The other, Nora, married J. W. Boothe in 1885.  He died a short time later leaving her with a baby boy to raise.  She and her mother sold the land I purchased from Eli. (1,2) in 1890. I am buried in the Gonzales Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales County, Texas.
