Home Ford Ancestors

Elizabeth Zumwalt was born in the year 1816 in the state of Missouri.  She came to Texas with her parents before 1833 where she met Eli Mitchell.  In October of that year and they decided to marry, but there were no legal or church officials to perform the ceremony.  Eli made bond with her in what has become Gonzales County, Texas.  At the time it was Cahauila in Mexico. They had nine children together.  They kept a record of their births, deaths and marriages in a bible. (1,2,3,4,5,6)  Eli and Elizabeth were both educated and could read and write. She was made the administrator of Eli's estate when he died in 1870.  Her surviving children helped her a great deal.  They deeded their right to part of the property Eli an dElizabethI had together to her so she could sell it.  This family left many records recorded in Gonzales County, Texas.  She died in 1889 and was buried in the Gonzales Masonic Cemetery along side her husband and some of her children.  Otho, Nancy, John, Nora, Chauncy, and Laura are there.
