His family was among the many Irish that left Pennsylvania and traveled down the old Wagon Road to North Carolina. There he met and married Magdelen Allison after 02 Mar 1773 in Rowan County, North Carolina when he gave a bond with Alexander Allison for our marriage. At the time his hands were able to do many things, including affixing his name to legal documents. The couple had several children before he went to help with the cause started by the unjustified taxation of our King that the ne country rebelled against. He served as a private under Captain James Crawford, in the North Carolina Troops. He received a pension for his service after a law was passed in 1832 and after he had removed to Rutherford County in Western Tennessee. By this time his hands were shaky and could no longer do more than mark an X for his name.
