Mary Sophia Cain was born the 11th day of April in the year 1812 in Nashville, Tennessee. Her papa, William Pitt Lawrence and her mama Nancy Pomroy Risley were very protective of her. I married Robert Belcher Cain in the home of her sister Phila Ann and her husband Stokely Donelson on 29 September 1831.  Her papa loaned Mary Sophia and her  husband negroes to ensure her comfort in her married life, but as one can see from the following court record, didn't like her husband very much and feared for Mary Sophia, his daughter.

At the time this was written she had already had a son that they named after her father William Pitt and she was pregnant with another child.  That child was named Phila Ann after her sister.  Mary Sophia died when Phila was not even 5 months old and Robert, her husband remarried.  The first name of Mary to that child's name to honor Mary Sophia, but she was raised by nannies and other people, not Robert and his new wife.
