Marion Lawrence Camp was born on December 14, 1875 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee. the youngest child of James Thomas Camp and Mary Phila Ann Cain. His father died when he was 5 years old, but he was told of our rich family heritage and kept it alive by recording much of what he knew.
His mother, sold what little we had after his father died and they moved to Texas where some of his older brothers had gone. They settled in Garland, Texas. In 1897 Marion worked driving cattle across North Texas. He kept a journal during this time.
He married Rose Elizabeth Bradley, a widow of Sherwood Adams, February 21, 1903. They marriage is recorded in both Tarrant and Dallas Counties. They had two children Marian Margaret and Lawrence Bradley.
Marion worked in the Dallas County clerks office for several years until he decided to run for the office of County Clerk itself. He was beaten by the incumbent and the shenanigans of the Klu Klux Klan. He, like Rose his wife, died before any grandchildren were born. He left behind though, his family heritage, through cousins and other relatives that continue to have interaction today. Rose and Marion are interred in the Old Calvary Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. |
