Dorothy Chamberlain Jones
Home Camp Ancestors

I was born October 1, 1783 in Amelia County, Virginia to Richard B. Jones and Martha Ward.  My birth is recorded in the family bible and other records in the family memorabilia that has been passed down in the family.  My father died before I married John Hamlin Camp in Davidson County, Tennessee in 1808.  Our family had moved to Robertson County, Tennessee shortly before my father died.

John Hamlin and I had 10 children together. Only 5 lived to adulthood, married and had children.  When he died in 1829 I still had small children to raise and protect. John Hamlin's brother, James, and I tried to obtain for my children bounty land for service rendered in the Revolutionary War by John, their father. (1,2) This petition was rejected.

After my daughter Maria married Albert Yerger, they took me to court to obtain 'her' portion of her fathers estate in 1833.  They then left Tennessee for Louisiana where Maria died in 1848.

I managed our already extensive holdings and accumulated more for our children.  My daughters and their families were provided for, but the bulk of the property and stock was for my only surviving son James Thomas.

Before I died I wrote a will empowering my daughters and granddaughters with their birth right and a large estate to my youngest child and son, yet unmarried.
