John M. Spence

James SpenceI was born in SC and was in Georgia at the onset of the Civil War. He enlisted while living in Cherokee County, Georgia in Company D 36 Regiment of Georgia where he became a prisoner of war in July of 1863. He signed an Oath of Alliance to the United States at that time. The Union took interest in recording his physical description as complexion as Dark;hair Dark, Eyes Dark; height 6 ft. 1 in. A short time after the war he married Nancy Fox and they had several children together.
